What do you need for fencing?

First of all, a coach to help and teach you. Secondly, an opponent to practice with. Thirdly, appropriate clothes to protect you.

It's OK for you to turn up in normal gym clothes (T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms and trainers). Coventry University Fencing Club can provide club equipment to use: masks, underjackets, breeches, white jackets and gloves. Oh yes, and weapons too!

Should you have any questions, ask them via e-mail (covunifencing@hotmail.com) or post them on the Forum! Comments, questions, proposals welcome!

Who is who?

Peter Rome is the Head Coach of Coventry University Fencing Club. He is a high class fencing master: holder the highest level coaching qualification, he has coached fencers from cadet and junior through to veteran age groups for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and many of his fencers represented GB at international competitions. He is leading most of our training days (when we get together for at least 5 hours, normally on a Saturday to dedicate our weekend to improve our technique before major competitions). He is also the West Midlands coach educator - so if you are thinking about becoming a coach, it is best to talk to him! Peter coaches at Salle Ursa Fencing Club in Coventry and Warwick, as well as at several schools in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Bernadett Toth is the club's assistant coach. She has been fencing for over 15 years and is the current Warwickshire County Champion in women's foil.

We always need new committee members, so if you feel like joining, contact us! Every club member is eligible to become a club official. (Picture from ez-entertainment.net)
